Since we're already in northern Greece at the end of August, (click to read our adventure in Tzoumerka ), and just about 3 hours to cross to Albania, we decided to visit Ksamil and Sarande!
Sarande and Ksamil were very beautiful! There are tourists from all over Europe! I think this is a good summer destination option. Unfortunately, the only airport in Albania is in Tirana. Crossing the border with the car was simply the best way for us. The road infrastructure is not the best but the beautiful beaches and the clear water pays off the long drive.
Sarande is ideal for vacation not only because of it's scenery, the prices in their local currency LEK, are 25-30% lower compared to average European countries. Just 5 years ago, their currency was even lower (40-50%) but because the tourist industry started growing, it supported their economy even more.
Wherever you see a shore, it automatically means there is at least 2 beach bars!
Tip: Most of the locals in these areas can speak Greek, so for us it was a bit easier to communicate with them, but they speak English just as fine :)
We see picking up trash (on the street, on a hike path/mountain trail) as a game. We collect so much plastic that when it's time to head back we ask other people's help to carry some of the trash bags we collected, we explain what we're doing and they start volunteering and contribute in their own way for a cleaner environment!
We were really thrilled hearing and seeing lots of #trashtag, and we said it's time for us to take on a whole beach clean up! So #TrashTag Challenge Accepted. We believe that we still have time to save the our planet if we all work together!
If you haven't already checked out our Europe cycling trip, here is the video, you can also check out our daily adventure photos of this unique experience!
Tzoumerka is a lesser known destination even for locals. This might just be the Greeks' best kept secret! Stone mansions, cobblestone streets, scenic vistas and quaint squares with Greeks drinking their fave coffee! Every corner of this place is instagrammable. This place is also a paradise for outdoor activities : trekking, hiking, canyoning, rafting and even just by looking what is around you.
The Lake below is called "Limni Kremaston" and it was in our way to Tzoumerka
Summer is here so we packed all our camping gear and got ready for the road!
This is the first time that we are bringing anyone with us for such a long trip. This is also Ntak’s first time in a road trip and camping trip: Challenge accepted!

This is one of George's most favorite islands and that is why he was really determined we went this year. We were supposed to stay about a month here but we have another trip already set (read here about 3000km cycling trip in Europe Starts in Septemper), so for now, we could only stay for 15 days.
We flew early to the neighboring island followed by a 3 hour boat ride, immediately after, we took a car ride until the path to the Springs of Fonias, hiked for a little over an hour and after 12 hours of travelling, finally arrived in our first camping spot!
I have never camped in my life, other than the mandatory camping from primarschools, where you have your parents outside your tent and it's on school grounds.
I was really excited and shocked at the same time because it wasn't planned and it was a 15-day free camping trip, for a first timer, it's kinda scary. Also, I don't know why I was scared, maybe because I was not used to it :)
So it began, the photo above is from our 3rd campsite. The first one was up in the mountain. There was no light pollution so the stars at night were crazy bright.
We have all the dramatic (we use this word for everything to add more flare 🔥) cooking stuff: pots, pans, stoves. We even have olive oil from home! Everyday we will eat at a really good place ( we were cooking all the time) a bench with a table on a cliff. A rest stop with a water fountain and a glorious view, and so on.. We always eat at a different place every time.
Travel smart and cheap

Most of the hard work come from Kyrie's hand, Giorgos is the face on the photos, it's his "creative" shots and he's the master of the ceremony :) Live Your Myth
